The
story of South Hills is an exciting one. It all started
in October of 1997, when a handful of people met at
an office complex to begin dreaming, strategizing and
preparing to plant a brand new church in the city of
Corona. The mission God had put in the heart of these
pioneers was “Turning un-churched people into
fully devoted followers of Christ.” This mission
still rings true today and serves as the compass for
what South Hills has been called by God to do.
In
March of 1998 we held our first public church service
in a lodge located on Main Street. We quickly outgrew
that facility and moved to our next location, the gymnasium
at Citrus Hills Intermediate School. From that point
we continued to grow while God began to open
the doors for us to purchase our own property. The 6.2
acres where South Hills now resides was purchased and
temporary metal buildings were built. On June 2,
2002, we held our first Sunday services on our very
own property.
The need for more space inspired our “Build for Life
Now” campaign In November 2003. During this campaign we challenged
each of the South Hills family members to consider what
they could do to help financially with our first permanent building. The great people
of South Hills rallied together with an upfront offering
and a 36-month pledge. These funds (over $900,000) covered
the majority of our Kid Zone construction, landscaping,
street improvements, equipment, furniture and many additional
city requirements. On August 28, 2005 we held our first
service in our brand new facility and a few weeks later
our children’s department hosted their first event
in the Kid Zone Center. God is continuing to do great
things through our church and in the lives of the South
Hills people.
What
is the G.O.O.D program?
The G.O.O.D. program stands for Get Out Of Debt. It
grew out of the “Building for Life Now”
program mentioned above. The total debt incurred by the
church for construction was $2.9 million dollars. After
moving into our new facility we decided to take the
remaining 16 months left on the “Building for
Life Now” pledges and changed the name to G.O.O.D. Our goal was to reduce
the $2.9 million dollar debt as fast as possible. From that point forward all funds given to the G.O.O.D
program have been designated toward debt reduction.
